Restaurant Review: Browns Glasgow

Browns Glasgow is a bustling cocktail and piano bar in one half, and a restaurant in the other. It's part of a national chain, and the menu is vast; so we were expecting standardised food that is usual with chain establishments. What we got was the exact opposite- carefully considered creations, cooked to perfection and with flair. If we didn't know it was a chain restaurant, we would never have guessed. Browns Glasgow restaurant specialises in US style foods such as steak and lobster; all cooked and flavoured in innovative ways.

When we entered the restaurant, fresh flowers filled the air, and we were seated in a comfortable booth table next to the open kitchen and serving hatch. It was great to watch the chefs work.

We started off with drinks whilst we were waiting on our starters. Aspall cider from Suffolk on tap was a rare find, and the Passion Fruit Daquiri (£7) cocktail was delicious and mixed to perfection.

For starters we had the Box Baked Camembert with Breadsticks (£9) from the sharing section of the menu, and the Salmon, Smoked Haddock & Lobster Croquettes (£6.50). The cheese was amazing, and oozing from the box. Combined with the jumbo freshly baked breadsticks, this starter was just heaven. I could have eaten it all night. We found the croquettes quite tasteless however, and would have expected more than just two on the plate.

Our red wine choice came before our main course, so we had time to let it breath before enjoying with our steaks. The 21 Day Aged Sirloin Steaks (£19) were so juicy, and were cooked exactly as we ordered them.
The chunky chips that accompanied them were homemade and crisp, and the peppercorn and bearnaise sauces (£2) respectively were freshly made and tasty. We were so happy with our choices.

Despite being stuffed full, we just had to make room for dessert. Browns are famous for their brownies, so we had the Dark Chocolate Brownie; which was perfectly soft and chewy, and also the Sticky Toffee Pudding; which had the most amazing toffee sauce. The perfect way to round off a great evening.

Our server Andrew was amazing, and this is such a perfect restaurant for dates, for family meals and for business meals- all of which we witnessed throughout the night. There is something on the menu for everyone, so get over there and enjoy a night out. If you're lucky, the live jazz pianist will be playing too.
