The Style Word: 5 Minutes With Mohna Linton

The-Chic Boutique.com is a brand new e-commerce site launched this summer, stocking some of the most sought after fashion brands to the UK. The stylish new site aims to provide customers with the latest fashion trends, from the most popular established international labels to the unique emerging fashion designers. Although the site may have just been launched, The-Chic Boutique is already the sole stockist of Australian brand Talulah in the UK and Europe.

The-Chic Boutique was founded by Mohna Linton, a Masters graduate who studied International Business, Marketing and HR at the University of Dundee. Mohna’s interest in fashion began at a young age and she soon understood the need to gain experience in the industry. Outwith studying at university, Mohna gained extra knowledge through completing summer courses at London College of Fashion and in Fashion Marketing, also interning at luxury department store Harvey Nichols as their press and marketing assistant. Interning for Good Housekeeping magazine gave Mohna a further insight into the fashion world and it is with the combination of the skills learned through these experiences that gave the young entrepreneur the knowledge to begin The-Chic Boutique. By understanding the world of fashion and business, Mohna has already secured top brands, with the newly launched site growing in popularity each day. The-Chic Boutique has launched stocking only womenswear, however Mohna is already planning the addition of shoes and accessories to the stylish site, with future plans for menswear and kidswear.

You have a strong business education, and you clearly knew you wanted to use that in the fashion industry. What made you confident your site could succeed amongst the plethora of other online retailers?

I felt I could make the website a success as I have a real passion for the fashion industry along with gaining invaluable work experience interning at Harvey Nichols, The Scottish Fashion Awards and Good Housekeeping magazine. I feel by gaining knowledge from these established businesses it has given me the necessary skills and insights required to make the business a success.

Do you think online shopping is eventually going to take over from going out to stores and touching the garments? It seems to be getting stronger and stronger.

While online retailing is still in its infancy and it will continue to grow with the aid of new technology making it quicker, easier and more secure I think there will always be a need to for bricks and mortar shops. There will always be a customer who wants to walk into a shop and have the customer experience; however in my opinion with more men and women living fast pace lives and working more online retailing is my obvious choice.

Where do you see The-Chic Boutique going? Do you envisage it taking on the likes of ASOS and Net-a-Porter who are huge brands in their own right now?

The-Chic Boutique is starting as a boutique online store providing different brands which no other retailer in the UK or Europe is currently stocking. To stay ahead of competitors I will continue to source brands which are new in the UK or just emerging as I like to support new businesses…watch this space anything is possible when you are dedicated and passionate.

Describe your style. How has it influenced the brands you have on the site?

My style is very classic, I like taking pieces that are bang on trend or a little quirky and styling it together with wardrobe staples. The brands I am stocking reflect this as Talulah is very feminine and chic, Forever Unique is fashion forward and Mina UK is quirky.
