The Style Word: 5 Minutes With Celebrity Stylist Gemma Rose Breger

Gemma Rose Breger has been a stylist for various brands, television shows, magazines and celebrities; including Glamour, Heat, Hello, Net-a-Porter, House of Fraser, ASOS, The X Factor, Made in Chelsea and Britain's Next Top Model. She has also styled celebrities including Amber Le Bon, Rihanna, Fearne Cotton and Britney Spears.

Describe to us what you do?
I am a freelance fashion stylist so I style a variety of things such as TV shows, celebrities and fashion and magazine shoots.

What was your career path to becoming a stylist?
I studied fashion and communications at Leeds University and in my second year of uni I went travelling around the world and ended up working in New York for a few months. I worked at New York Fashion Week and for a fashion PR company when I realised that I wanted to become a stylist. After university I worked as a stylist for Topshop for 4 years before leaving to become freelance.

What has been your most exciting job so far?
One of my career highlights was styling Britney Spears for her birthday when she was visiting London a few years ago. I also did the styling on The X Factor in 2012 which was exciting (and challenging)!

What are some of the perks of being a stylist?
One of my favourite things about my job is that I get to pretty much shop 24/7. Sadly I don't get to keep all the clothes. I also get to preview the collections before they arrive in stores, and I get a cheeky discount for most stores when I shop (which only encourages my shopping addiction).

What are your favourite SS14 trends?
I like to be aware of the trends but not necessarily follow them. I'm like a magpie and am drawn to sequins, iridescence and glitter; so the Ashish SS14 show was my favourite and I'm excited to see how the high street emulates his collection for SS14.

Share with us your favourite places to shop for unique clothing and accessories?
My favourite place to shop is charity shops, car boot sales and on Ebay. I love finding one of a kind pieces and particularly love a bargain. My best buy so far was a pair of leopard print Moschino cigarette trousers that I found in a car boot sale for £4.
