Stylish Stay: Stay Central, Edinburgh

Stay Central Edinburgh is a new quirky hotel in Edinburgh's city centre, just a short stroll from Grassmarket. Housed in a building that dates back to the 17th century, the interior has been transformed into a sleek hotel where each room makes a statement, and all guest's needs are catered for in an original way. Staying here is an experience much more than just a place to rest your head for the night.

Designed by Jim Hamilton, the hotel mixes modern minimalism with 1940s wartime austerity. The corridors are white and bright, rooms have stripped back wooden floorboards and the lifts encourage you to take a 'selfie' in the mirror; whilst work desks with paper, pencils and bulldog clips; sandbag pillows and metal utility units transport you to Churchill's Cabinet War Rooms. The mix is unique and done very well.

Stay Central is proud of its Edinburgh location. Their Urban Gym takes guests to exercise in the natural environment of the city, and they rent out bicycles for those wanting to explore Scotland's capital city in more depth. You could always walk too- the hotel lobby's complimentary hot chocolate will keep you warm.

Rooms come in sizes from S to XL, with a large private dorm (with table tennis and Smeg fridge) thrown in for good measure. As would be expected, rooms of multiple occupancy attract groups of student travelers and hen and stag parties, and the hotel goes the extra mile to cater for these groups. In-room packages such as the Girls Night Box (decorations, party games, GHD hair straighteners, mirrors, fake tan and toiletries), Class Act Hamper (Pink champagne, decorations, dinner and karaoke) and the Boys Night Box (PS3, games, playing cards, lads mags, toiletries and mini GHDs) encourage making Stay Central your home for the night. The adjoining pub and sister-venue The Three Sisters is also an attraction for a night of entertainment. Whilst trying to cater for everyone, this hotel is definitely optimised for the 18-35 age group.

We stayed in a M (Medium) room, meant for couples, and enjoyed free wifi, a flat screen TV, rainfall shower, gorgeous fruity Scottish toiletries, an iPod dock and complimentary hot beverages and Tunnocks Tea Cakes. The bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed; but even in a quiet location in the hotel, the noise from other guests did affect us during the night.

This is a perfect hotel to visit with friends for a girl/boy's night for those who want something more stylish and original, and the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about Edinburgh- making it a great location for young holidaymakers also.
