Stylish Stay: Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh (and Maison Bleue Restaurant)

Situated right in the theatre district in Edinburgh's city centre, is the sleek and luxurious Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa. It has all of the modern luxury you would expect of this American chain; with unique Scottish touches and commanding views of the Edinburgh skyline.

The rooms are clean and functional, whilst being extremely comfortable and containing lots of additional features that you would expect from a hotel of this standard- such as bathroom TV audio adjustment, castle views and freshly baked Scottish shortbread. They have free Wifi too!

If you manage to secure a room on the Club Floor by paying the additional costs, you gain access to the Club Lounge, serving complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day. It is relaxed with impeccable service, and is well worth those extra pounds.

One of the major bonuses of staying in this hotel is the access to the award-winning and renowned One Spa that adjoins the hotel. Their rooftop hydropool is relaxing like nothing else- its views over the city let you drift into your own little world. It is an excellent way to round up a trip to the spa's famous Thermal Experience (a relaxing succession of hot and cold rooms and showers). Our favourite stop on the route was the warm, fresh orange peel-scented shower; which we could have stayed in all day had the rooftop pool not lured us away.

Breakfast is buffet-style, and offers everything you could possibly wish to eat in the morning, in true American style. You simply can't stay here without experiencing it. From Stornoway Black Pudding to freshly baked muffins and a smoothie bar, you are spoilt for choice.

The hotel is huge and lively. It is perfect for corporate stays, romantic trips and family holidays. It has its own fee-paying carpark, and its bars, restaurant and business centre will never leave you short of places to go. For a unique experience, try a gin from the One Square bar's extensive menu of over 40 varieties.

If you are looking to dine outwith the hotel and experience some of Edinburgh, head to the Grassmarket area of the city and try luxury French-Morrocan restaurant Maison Bleue on Victoria Street. The exterior is bright blue, so you won't miss it. There are classic French starters such as Baked Camembert and Snails to Morrocan-influenced Chicken Kemia skewers with Harissa. For main course, their steaks are amazing, and for dessert, their Creme Brulee is to die for. It's not cheap; but it's worth it, and its dark gothic interior makes it an ideal romantic night out.
